Track & Field - boys & girls grades K - 8

Registration for Boys & Girls track & field runs from early January to mid-February.

Program Basics:

  • Grades K - 2 are considered an intramural program (not official CYO).  Emphasis is placed on learning the joy of running and participating in field events.  Coaches emphasize teaching basic skills and promoting good sportsmanship among the kids.

  • Events intramural program sponsors include: 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, and 4 x100 relay as well as Standing Long Jump, Running Long Jump, and Javelin Dart.

  • Grades 3 - 6 are considered instructional.  Emphasis is placed on learning basic track and field skills.  At this level, the kids are exposed to the many different running distances and field events so they and the coaches can determine what suits them best.

  • Grades 7 & 8 are considered competitive.  Emphasis is placed on improving skills and personal goals.

  • Grades 3 - 8 are part of the official CYO Program.  Events CYO sponsors include: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, dash races, 1600 M Run, 4 x100 relay, and 4 x 200 relay as well as Standing Jump, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, and Discus.

  • We know that all athletes have different abilities.  We welcome all boys and girls regardless of how fast or how slow they are.  Having fun and developing friendships are an integral part of the track program.

  • All coaches are background checked and go through a CYO training course that emphasizes good sportsmanship.
